Black Rock Jeep

Legend has it that the Black Rock Jeep was forged deep in the volcano of Mt. Haleakala by the Hawaiian demigod, Maui. During the last eruption late in the 17th century, lava flowed down to the ocean creating the black rocks you see today. During that time, Maui commanded the volcano to release his masterpiece so it could fulfill its destiny. The mission of the Black Rock Jeep, is to showcase the wonders and beauty of the island, of which, it’s creator, was named after.

But that is not all. Legend also speaks of a Jeep that was created hundreds of thousands of years earlier.

Across the island lie the ancient West Maui mountains. They are the remains of the older sister of Mt Haleakala, formally known as the great and powerful volcano, Mauna Kahalawai. It is said that Maui had created a similar Jeep deep in her belly but left it there for ages, waiting for the conducive conditions that would allow his creation to explore the world that was created around it. After growing impatient, it rebelled against its master by constantly disrupting the natural order of the environment where it was being kept. When the volcano could not take it any longer, it viciously erupted, ejecting the Jeep deep across the Pacific Ocean. After wandering the oceans for a millennia trying to find its way back home, it finally stumbled upon a different landscape of black rocks found on the coast of the United States, in Laguna Beach, California.
Still determined to fulfill its destiny, it repurposed its mission to showcase the beauty and wonders of the California coast.

It is said that only those who are Black Rock Built are welcomed inside.
For those who don’t know, being Black Rock Built, means to fully adopt, embrace and live the aloha spirit.

As a reference here is the definition of Aloha.
